The final programme has been confirmed for innoLAE 2015 (Innovations in Large-Area Electronics), the first annual conference organized by the new EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics which is taking place at Downing College Cambridge from February 3-4th 2015.

Introducing the conference, Chris Rider, the Centre Director, says “innoLAE 2015 combines a varied 2-day presentation programme, poster session and an exhibition. With an emphasis on manufacturing, the conference provides an opportunity to hear the latest results from UK academic researchers, the latest developments from UK and international companies active in the technology, and keynotes from leading international organisations.  We are looking forward to welcome all attendees to this, our first innoLAE conference”.

Dr Luigi Occhipinti, National Outreach Manager of the Centre and Chair of the Programme Committee says “The Programme Committee has done a great job in building the programme of this first conference, selecting important topics and securing world-class speakers from UK and beyond. We’ve had a wonderful response to our first call for papers which is reflected not only in the excellent oral presentations, but also in the great work outlined in the poster session, which will make judging the poster prize very difficult.“

Speakers from both industry and academia will present their most recent research results and their perspectives on emerging technologies and application trends at the conference in sectors such as automotive, with speakers from leading companies like Jaguar Land Rover, to introduce the future vehicle interface challenge, and consumer electronics, with PragmatIC Printing, a UK company planning to revolutionise the consumer market by introducing intelligence into everyday objects and packaging.  Future perspectives for organic electronics in neuro-prosthetics and healthcare, will be addressed with speakers from Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne (France), ProfessorGeorge Malliaras, and Matteo Donegà from the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute.

Among the presenters this year, we are delighted to welcome our keynote speakers, Professor Tsuyoshi Sekitani from Osaka University (Japan), who will give the audience an overview of the most recent results leading to ultra-flexible imperceptible electronics for biomedical applications, and Dr Christian Brox-Nilsen from Thin Film Electronics ASA (Norway), who will present their recently installed roll-to-roll printing line for mass-manufacturing of their memory products on plastic webs, a great example of industrial products manufacturing for the Internet-Of-Things.

Other highlights include invited talks by Dr Barbara Stadlober from Joanneum Research in Austria, who will introduce the main aspects of advanced micro and nano-manufacturing for high performance organic electronics and Dr. Simon Ogier from the UK Centre for Process Innovation (CPI).  The UK company, Oxford Lasers Ltd, will introduce a promising new technology for high resolution OTFT manufacturing, combining laser-assisted inkjet printing and laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT).  SPECIFIC from Swansea (UK) will present the latest results in organolead halide perovskite-based solar cells with world record efficiencies of 16% incorporating an ITO-free flexible transparent electrode. The German company Robert Bosch GmbH will introduce their latest results in conformable electronics. Plastic Logic Ltd (UK) will report their unique requirements for truly flexible electronics and Merck Chemicals Ltd will introduce opportunities and applications enables by their latest generation of organic materials for printed electronics. Printed energy harvesting and storage for flexible electronics will be presented by Professor Don Lupo (Tampere University of Technology, Finland) and Dr Zari Tehrani (Swansea University, UK). Among other key aspects strongly associated with manufacturing and applications, the conference has dedicated one session to design, testing and validation methods, which includes speakers from Silvaco Europe and the University of Cambridge and the University of Glasgow. Among other European Research and Technology Organizations, the Holst Centre in the Netherlands and VTT in Finland will speak at the conference.

Projects at the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Large-Area Electronics will be presented by Professor Henning Sirringhaus (University of Cambridge) and Professor Thomas Anthopoulos (Imperial College London). Prof Sirringhaus will talk about integrated sensor systems and Prof Anthopoulos new materials and patterning technologies for large-area electronics.

Last but not least the audience will have the opportunity to hear about the activities of the IEC TC119 Printed Electronics Standardization committee, directly from its chair Dr. Alan Hodgson, as well as about the funding opportunities and strategy to promote innovation and growth in high-value manufacturing, from Dr Andy Sellars, innovateUK.

If you are interested in LAE technology from any perspective, whether as a researcher, a manufacturer, an end-user, a business developer, a policy maker or a trade association we cordially invite you to join us for innoLAE2015 conference.
